We couldn't write about Britain's greatest picnic spots from behind a desk. So we rolled up our blankets and hit the road for three weeks. 1843 miles, four punctures, three breakdowns and countless sarnies later, we've got our favourite 30: the Country Life Gold Picnic Spots.

We're also sharing our pick of the 'nics from our own research and recommendations. Unlike our Country Life Gold Picnic Spots, we haven't quite managed to visit all these places yet.
